A DECADE OF SERVICE, COUNTLESS SMILES
MARCH 2025
Lynn Chee, an Operating Room Nurse from Singapore, is one of Smile Asia’s most seasoned volunteers. Since joining her first medical mission in 2011, she has participated in nearly 30 missions – and continues to dedicate her time and skills to helping children with facial deformities.
Over the years, Lynn has witnessed firsthand how countless young lives ahve been transformed. “Having a cleft repaired allows children to integrate into society and be accepted,” she explains, sharing that in some cultures, cleft is still seen as a taboo. Surgery not only changes a child’s appearance but also their future, opening doors to better opportunities.
When asked what motivated her to volunteer, Lynn smiles. “Honestly, after so many missions, I still don’t know what motivates me. But I just kept going. Every mission has been thrilling, and I’ve always felt excited to be part of it.”
Say Cheese! A joyful moment as one of our little warriors proudly takes Lynn’s picture on discharge day
For Lynn, another joy of volunteering is the sense of global community each mission creates. She loves how the organisation brings together medical professionals from all around the world, forming bonds that last far beyond the operating room. “Every mission feels like a mini reunion,” she says. “I get to reunite with friends I’ve worked with before while also making new ones.”
Through her dedication Lynn has become more than just a volunteer – she is part of the heart and spirit of Smile Asia. Her journey reflects the power of compassion and teamwork, proving that one person’s commitment can change the lives of many.
